JJAM 2008 ANNUAL CONFERENCE WRAP UP

The Juvenile Justice Association of Michigan, returned to Shanty Creek after two years at Treetops Resort.  The members of JJAM were very pleased with the $10 million dollars of renovations to Shanty Creek.  The main lodge was opened up and modern decor was present throughout the resort and rooms.

The Annual Conference was held from September 10th through September 12th.  Presenting on September 10th was Rosalyn Bliss speaking on The Effects of Trauma on Kids.  The majority of JJAM members felt the presentation was informative and the material interesting.  Ms. Bliss was knowledgeable and passionate on the topic and gave members ideas to take back to use in their work environment.

Michael Clark presented Motivational Interviewing: Increasing the Readiness to Change on September 11th and 12th.  The feedback on this presentation was outstanding.  Not only did members feel Mr. Clark was fantastic, interesting and informative they also felt he provided relevant and useful information and skills that could be used on a daily basis.  One member even stated on the evaluation form that "this presentation was easily the best and most useful I've ever heard!"

JJAM would like to thank the ever supporting vendors for attending our Annual Conference.  Especially Boys Town for sponsoring all of our breaks, Correctional Management for assisting in the cost of our banquet, HOly Cross Children's Services and Starr Commonwealth for donating to the JJAM raffle.

The 2009 Annual Conference is September 30th through October 2nd at Shanty Creek.  Hope to see you there!!

2008 JJAM GOLF OUTING

We made it through another year for the golf outing with lots of laughter and good weather.  Even with the weatherman calling for a 40% chance of rain, the weather held out for the event.  Congratulations to the winning team from Calhoun County consisting of Keven Kellums, Jeff Damore, Michael Brown and Scott Scofield.  The outing will be held at the Summit Course again next year.  We are looking forward to another great event.

Sincere thanks again to the JJAM golf committee, John Block, Joe Povolo, Peggy Krayniak, and Gary McLeod.  Special Thanks to Karen Heinzelman for assisting in setting up the outing at the Summit.  We would also like to thank the staff at the Summit Golf Course for their cooperation and efforts in setting up the course and carts for the outing.

Also sincere thanks to Wolverine Human Services (Jim Furbush) for the generous first prize donations every year.  Also House Arrest Services, Inc. (Tom Ugval) for their donation for prizes this year and years past.  We would also like to thank Eagle Village and Holy Cross Children's Services for their generous donations toward the golf outing.
