The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Juvenile Justice Programs (JJPs) is offering the sixth year (FY20) of statewide training on the Michigan Juvenile Justice Assessment System (MJJAS). The MJJAS is a structured risk assessment tool for youth that identifies the likelihood of a youth engaging in future criminal behavior and informs appropriate risk classification. MJJAS can be re-administered to a youth over time to determine changes in risk level based upon changes in behavioral profile or life situation. It can be used at five different decision points for a youth in contact with the juvenile justice system, diversion, detention, disposition, residential placement, and reentry to the community from residential placement. In addition to risk assessment, results from the disposition, residential and reentry tools can assist with case planning, and identification of residential and reentry service needs for the youth.

MJJAS and the supporting training is available through MDHHS for counties and courts, if interested, at no charge. Certification training to administer the MJJAS assessments is required and available through MDHHS.

To register for classes, please email Michelle Sage at MDHHS-MJJAS@michigan.gov to register. Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Participants that fail to attend, arrive late, depart early, or attend only portions of the training will not receive certification to administer the MJJAS.
